Famous rapper, designer, and artist Kanye West has announced that he's running for the 2020 US presidential election. This comes as a surprise and it’s quite sudden considering that he’s planning to run this November as a candidate with the Federal Election Commission.

Many thought that Kanye was joking but it appears that he’s dead serious judging by comments from insiders. This isn’t the first time that Kayne has alluded to his desire to run for the US presidency but unlike all those previous occasions, Mr. West appears to be committed to his goal due to an increased interest in politics.

Apparently, Kanye has been in talks with many high-powered friends about the prospect of running for US president and many of them have pledged their support, albeit secretly. Of course, his wife Kim and her family, the Kardashians, all support him.

Kanye feels that he has so much more to offer to the world, but he’s already up to a difficult start. Since he missed the ballot paper deadline, he will need to run as an independent because he cannot run as a Republican or Democrat candidate.

That’s not the only deadline that Kanye has missed, however, as he also missed his chance to register as a candidate in Texas, North Carolina, New Mexico, Maine, and Indiana.

He can still register as a candidate in the rest of the states but he will have to meet their individual regulations and criteria.

In true Kanye style, he made his announcement via Twitter, with a tweet that read:

"We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision, and building our future. I am running for president of the United States [US flag emoji]! #2020VISION (sic)"

‘Ye initially hinted to an interest in running for office back in 2015 but in 2019 he announced that he was looking more to the 2024 election.

Twitter users are having a meltdown over Kanye’s announcements with many criticizing him while others are balking at the prospect of having Kim Kardashian as the first lady.

Naturally, this gave birth to numerous memes, many of which are hilarious to be honest, while others are actually commending Kanye on his courage to go after his dreams. Not only has Kanye conquered the realms of music, fashion and business, but now he has his sights on politics as well.

Of course, most of the memes and comments to Kanye’s posts are about the prospect of Kim Kardashian becoming the First Lady with one user going as far as to say that he’ll be saying goodbye to his American citizenship if that happens.

Needless to say, Kanye’s announcement has been a divisive topic to say the least, but only time will tell if he’s really serious or if this is just another phase. But, something tells me that he might stick with it this time.
