Amazon is a very innovative company. The e-comment giant has been taking over the retail industry with its superior tech and on Tuesday, the company launched a service that delivers packages to the trunk of your car. Amazon uses a digital app to open the trunks of client’s cars where the package will be delivered. The retail giant already delivers packages to customers’ doorstep and in their homes. The in-car delivery is a new service that’s designed for convenience and flexibility. Simply put, Amazon is basically turning your car’s trunk into a locker.

The new service is part of Amazon Key, a new program that was released last year. Amazon Key allows Amazon drivers to open customers’ front doors so they can leave packages inside their homes. The new in-car service is only available to Amazon Prime customers. However, the Amazon Key program is already available in 37 areas in the US. You don’t need to be signed up for the Amazon Key program to use the new in-car service. As long as you are an Amazon Prime client, you are good to go.

In addition to this, you don’t need to pay any subscription fees. The Amazon Key program requires that customers buy a smart lock and camera in order to facilitate in-home delivery. This costs around $220. However, the in-car delivery service is restricted to a number of car brands. Compatible 2015 or newer Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC vehicles are the only ones eligible for this service at the moment. However, Amazon says that support for more cars will be added very soon.

So, how does this service work?

The first thing you should do is to download the Amazon Key app. Link the app with your Amazon Prime account. Once you have done this, every time you order something through your Amazon Prime account a pop-up window will appear asking you if you want in-car delivery. If you choose this option, you will tell the app where your car is parked. There’s also the option to leave a note to the Amazon driver.

When it’s time to deliver the package, the Amazon driver will be sent to where the car is parked. The parking area doesn’t need to be an exact address. The app can find the car within two blocks. The driver will then stand next to the car, tap the app, and the trunk will open. The package will be placed inside the trunk and the Amazon driver will lock it up using the app.

The Amazon app can only be used to open up the trunk of the car. It cannot start the ignition nor do anything else. In addition to this, the driver will not be able to move to the next stop until the trunk is locked. This adds a layer of security to ensure the package is not lost. The new service was released on Tuesday and the plan is to expand it gradually in the next few months.
